It's official. The little piece of Sicily that has graced the cuisine of Scunthorpe for almost two decades is the best restaurant in the region.

The Colosseo Ristorante, a popular stop for people who enjoy authentic Italian food, has been named the Scunthorpe Telegraph's Restaurant Of The Year 2009.

The grand accolade came after two rounds of public voting and a visit by the paper's panel of judges – who were impressed by the quality of the food on offer.

After learning that the popular town centre venue has become the region's culinary champion, owner Carlo Catalano said: "It's absolutely fantastic – we're very pleased".
